Welcome to the Hipsley lab in Integrative Evolutionary Morphology, where we study phenotypic variation in light of genetic (and increasingly genomic) information.

Our general focus is on deep-time patterns of evolution in vertebrates, including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. We integrate multiple sources of information from morphology, paleontology, and molecular phylogenetics to reconstruct the evolutionary history of modern groups. We are specifically interested in the evolutionary dynamics of morphological transformations – profound changes in body plans that often accompany major shifts in diversification and life history. We currently focus on several groups in this regard – lizards, snakes, turtles, frogs, and wolves.
